Dead Computer
Last night I was in such a good mood and so excited, as I spent the whole evening weaving. It was approaching my bed time, so I anxiously brewed a cup of Nighty Night tea. I took the tea with me into my studio, and could think of nothing better then, weaving, watching a movie, and sipping my hot tea. My mug balanced beside my laptop, I knew this was not a good placement, but I did it anyway. Well I never got to drink that nice hot cup of tea, instead I knocked it over and poured it all over my computer, which made my wonderful evening come to a crashing hault. I now had hot tea dripping onto my bare feet, and a computer that will no longer turns on. At least I was able to finish two scarves, however I missed my beloved computer.

Spending Saturday and Sunday weaving is my perfect weekend. I pop a DVD into my computer, have all the yarn needed within arms reach and begin pressing the treadles and sending the shuttle flying, anxiously awaiting the colorful yards of fabric. Once off of the loom I must determine how I want to complete the piece. Alterations are made, than I drape the luscious fabric around my neck, look into the mirror and debate if the piece is complete. As soon as one is finished I can barely wait to start the next. Unfortunately sleep is calling, so I will go and dream of weaving until I can once again sit behind the loom.

This is my interpretation of the wheat and corn fields I pass while riding my bike. I enjoy seeing the color of the field change as the sun rises on my way to work.

Mixed Media: Cotton Yarn, wire, felt
I am interested in creating both functional pieces as well as wearable art. I created the scarf following the same technique used to create my flair scarves. By mixing roving, unspun wool, and silk I created the fleted white balls growing out of the scarf, the felt pieces are attached to wire that was woven into the scarf during the inital weaving process. The materials are closely connected as the yarn used to weave the scarf is made by spinning and processing the fibers used to create the white pods.

I have a bridal shower to go to next week and I was trying to think of what to give for a gift. I wanted to make something, however I was running low on time so I needed to think of something which was not too time consuming. Finally I decided to design thank you cards using the brides wedding colors. I was pretty happy with how they turned out.

I have been trying to come with ways to reuse my wedding dress, as I don't just want to store it in a box under my bed. So I began by taking the slip the apart. I cut the tulle off of the slip and used it to weave this scarf. This scarf is a combination of tulle and white cotton yarn. I am going to make one from all tulle and see how it works. My plan is to create one scarf from my wedding dress and that will be my keepsake instead of the whole dress.

This piece was created using all white yarn of varying weights. I used very thin yarn for the middle of the piece so that it would become transparent. The yarn in the middle was also altered so that it has a smooth flowing movement to it. This piece is for sale in my etsy shop at the bottom of the page.
As I weave, each thread takes away a piece of my day, each pass, every bond recreates my day into a beautiful textile.
It becomes a blanket of warmth , a cover of safety, protection, and beauty.
I weave because I must, with each pass of the shuttle I give into the call of the maker, I watch each piece, follow the thread and find joy as the fabric appears.
I create pieces that demonstrate movement, that are delicate yet strong.
The pieces contain a transparent fragile center, with solid walls on each side.
These patterns weren’t intentional, they were not what I had in mind when I began, they are what developed as I released control, as I simply melted into the process of making and allowed my hands to do what they were created to do.

This scarf was custom made for my brothers' girlfriend. She picked the colors, and I determined the pattern.
