Felting
I have taken a break from working on the loom for a few days, as I wanted to do some experimenting with felting. I purchased pencil roving from the Mannings, one of my favorite stores, and began crocheting. As I crochet these pieces I am not following any pattern as my desire was for them to look organic, and I am not well known for following instructions. I am also interested in making the pieces look delicate and wanted there to be open spaces. After I finish crocheting a piece, it is thrown into the washing machine, where it becomes felt. My desire is for each piece to stand up like a collar when worn. Gold stiching was added to the cream collar for detail. I'm hoping to soon have time to experiment with felting my dogs hair, if anyone has experience with felting pet fur, suggestions are appreciated.

Yarn and Wire Scarf
I have been working with the same idea of adding texture and a color to my scarves, but experimenting with different types of material, as each material reacts differently. For this piece I added small pieces of silver wire to one edge of the scarf only. I wanted the to wire to become the collar, and was continuing with the idea of growth and movement. I had a lot of fun making this piece and my two younger cousins greatly enjoyed trying it in. ( they felt that it would work well as a skirt)

Creativity
While studying art in college I ran across this quote by one of my art history professors, Susanna Bede Caroselli, and it has always stuck with me. It is a wonderful and true description of the gift of creativty.
" Creativity takes a terrible toll. It makes us egocentric, selfish, competitive, anxious, desperate, and terrified. Creativity does not respect time or place or schedules. It demands that we focus on ourselves, often to the neglect of other responsibilites, sometimes to the exclusion of those who love us. We are never satisfied: we constantly examine our work and ourselves for flaws- and we always find them. The world acclaims us when we succeed, pities us when we fail, ignores us much of the time, and never really understands. Who would willingly take up such a double-edged sword? But who can put it down?
