Over the holiday weekend we got together with family. My cousins have three adorable little girls and another one on the way. They realized that they did a great job of getting photos of the first two, but haven't done so well with the third, and were hoping to get some photos of her before their fouth little girl comes in November. Ashley was so much fun to photograph, but a little challenging as well. She's still pretty young, so we didn't do any poses, I just followed her around with the camera and took pictures. Here's What I got.
For those of you wishing to improve on your photos here are a few tips that I give my students. My photographing inside, be sure that your white balance is set for the proper type of light in the house. You should be able to adjust this under menu. Also check your ISO setting. Whenever possible you went this to be set as low as possible, but often when indoors if shooting without a flash you will need to go towards the higher numbers.
Adjust your aperture to control the Depth of Field, or how much of the photo is in focus. This is how photographers get the background of a photo to blur. The lower f stops, like 2, 3.5, 5.6 will make it so that both the foreground and background are out of focus. F stops in the middle like 8, 9, 11 will make it so that either the subject and the foreground are in focus or the subject and the background are in focus. The larger number F stops like 18, 22 and so on will make it so that everything in your photo is in focus. The larger the number the smaller the opening, meaning less light is being allowed into your camera, therefore you are going to need to slow down the shutter speed, use a flash, and or increase the ISO.
I edited these in photoshop, as some of the backgrounds were distracting since they were set up photos. I mainly painted in the background. I also used a few filters, under distrot I used difuse, which gives a soft feel to the photo and you can adjust how strong it looks. As well us under distort, lens correction I added a vignette to some of the photos. These are two pretty easy ways in photoshop, to add a nice look to your images.
