During back to school night this year I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Claudine Jackson. Claudine is full of energy, and takes great unique photos. She was even willing to come in and speak to my photography I class, and gave them a great look into what it's like to start your own photography buisness. Go here and check out her awesome work! http://www.claudinejacksonphotography.com/
She does excellent work for weddings and senior portraits. I think she would be so much fun to work with on your wedding day. Claudine has unique ideas, and you'll be sure to have great photos. Click here to visit her blog. http://photostoriesbyclaudine.com/blog/
Why our Schools need the Arts
Good morning. I am currently taking grad classes and studing the importance of creativity and how creativity effects cultre and vice versa, so I've been doing a lot of reading. Today I'm going to share with you one of the books that I read
Davis, Jessica Hoffman. (2008). Why Our Schools Need the Arts. New York: Teacher’s College Press.
This is a wonderful book and easy read. Anyone interested in the arts should pick this one up. Below are the notes that I took while reading the book to give you all a little taste. Happy reading!
Arts must be important for their own sake not because of what they can do for other subjects
“ the arts in our schools are essential. They shed light on and give direction to the foundations that science provides. The things we think we know, and which we build, and form which we imagine- that’s science. The imaging. The building, the seeing beyond the given- that’s art.”
“ the arts are basic to us all”
our children all have a basic need to gain facility with making and finding meaning in the heights of human expression
if a school argues that they need more time to teach a tested subject before more times is added, one needs to analyze if it just needs to be taught differently
all teachers should have enough experience with art that they no longer say I don’t do art. This will help change students attitudes if they don’t see adults around them filled with excuses.
“ the arts need to be incorporated into every child’s learning for the more important purpose of enabling future generations to participate across circumstance, culture, and time in the ongoing human conversation that is perpetuated through art.”
“ If I can imagine and change the world I create in paint and in performance, am I not a person who can see beyond the given to alternate possibilities in the greater world?”
connection between art and express of emotion- looking at an artwork helps make them think about how others feel- empathy--- how did the artist that made that painting feel?
Young children naturally blur boundaries
When adults ask young children what their work is they are implying that the work must be something and not just an abstract creation. They are also saying that art must be like words
Students should have art to experience success and failure
Don’t just plead the case for art, present a plan---- assume that we are all on the same side of supporting students

Cool Spring Evening
I know that the weather is getting warmer, and I love it. But there are still evenings that a sweater like this one would be perfect. I love the lose neck and great wrap around the waste. And even better this one is on SALE!Weekend Adventure

Since I was in third grade every April my fathers work goes on a canoe trip to the Pennsylvania Grand Canoe. This trip normally was father's with their kids, and is a weekend that I look forward to every year. As my brother and I have gotten older our group has grown, as I am now married, and many of our friends come along as well.

Due to lack of rain, there was not enough water to canoe this year, so we decided to take a long hike instead.

It was a perfect day to go hiking, great sunshine, and wonderful lighting to take photos. I have noticed however, that I normally end up being the photographer on most trips, and therefore have no photos of myself.

boys will be boys... Dave and Dan are bothers and always doing something to eachother. While we stopped by a stream the two began throwing sticks at one another. The rules for the game where that they were not allowed to throw sticks and larger than their index finger, however, as the pictures show, this rule didn't last very long, and soon they were throwing trees.

Check out these wonderful red petal bowls, and even better they're on sale for $12.00. What a great price. There are only five so stop by and pick these up before I do! Be sure to visit this shop as there are many more great items to be found. http://www.etsy.com/shop/almapottery

Dream World
When I was young, I just loved mini books. My grandfather, who died when I was quiet young, also hand many mini Bibles, which is one thing that I remember about him. There is just something wonderful and playful about mini books, and I'm so excited to share these wonderful little journals with you! http://www.etsy.com/shop/anticovalore
Sorry that I haven't posted much lately, this wonderful weather has been drawing me outside away from the computer. I just love how plants look in the beginning of spring, when everything is just started to grow, but you can still see the branches. The trees and flowers in our backyard are growing wonderfully, and I am enjoying sitting out on the deck looking at all of these wonderful plants. My husband is still growing some of the plants inside, as it's not quiet warm enough for them, so our yard is ever changing as Dan continues to purchase new plants, and rearrange the yard.
Kjoo
I hate to admit it, but I must, my Easter break has ended and I must return to work today. I do love my job, but there is something so wonderful about waking up to sunshine and knowing that I am free to do what I want all day, which normally means make things. I just finished sewing curtains for one of the rooms in our house, however I still have many house projects still on my list to complete, and would like to get some more table runners made. Somehow, not much weaving as happened lately, and I must get back in there and complete some more pieces to share with everyone.
I love the necklace, of course, I love almost anything related to textiles. The colors and great and what wonderful craftsmanship, check out kjoo's shop for more great accessories. http://www.etsy.com/shop/kjoo
