Sad night
The little kitten didn't make it, he was just too skinny. My husband buried him our back yard. And our poor dog spent the evening running around the house in search of her little friend.
My most recent scarf. This piece is 63 in length and 8" in width. The scarf is designed with a textured body and ruffle around one edge. These scarfs are a great way to dress up any outfit, and are fun to wear.
Each scarf is hand made from start to finish. These are made by beginning with 6 yards of yarn, all 72 ends of yarn are threaded through two needles in an exact order to create the pattern. The scarf is handwoven and when taken off of the loom is 6 yard in length. The piece is then altered once off of the loom to create the texture and flair. Each piece is it's own unique pattern and color, no two are alike.
Little Addition
Last night as my husband and I were walking our dog, we began discussing getting a kitten. My husband was slightly against the idea as he did not want more vet bills to pay, I was in agreement until I looked up a saw a stray kitten sitting along the side of the road. I walked over, picked him up and bundled him in my sweatshirt. My husband, the logical one, kept trying to get me to put the kitten back, but I couldn't, he needed food and a warm home. So he ended up at house, I have him bath, wrapped him in towels and spoon fed him warm milk. The dog is still warming up to the idea of another furry creature being a part of her terittory. So, all this to say, I finished another lovely scarf last night, but did not have time to photograph it, as I was spoon feeding a very skinny kitten milk for an hour this morning before coming to work. Hopefully I will have photos of the scarf and the kitten tomorrow.
new scarves
This weekend was going to be one where I was pulled away from the loom and instead put 100 miles on my bike, however the rainy weather put an end to the biking trip and put me back behind my loom. I spent all of Saturday weaving, watching Grey's anatonomy, and sipping coffee. I can't think of a much better way to spend the day. The scarf that is finished turned out even better than expected. I love the way the colors worked together. Sunday afternoon was a brief photoshot with my husband. Peca, always feels a need to get involved when the camera comes out, so she possed with the scarf rolled to look like a wonderful blooming flower, she even took time to sniff it, hopeing that it would somehow release the wonderful smell of her precious dog treats.

My newest scarf that I finished last night. I must say this is my favorite so far. The warp is black in the center, deep red on one edge and a multi colored red on the other. Weft is called lipstick red. I love seeing how the weft colored yarn interacts with the various warp colors. My favorite part is when the weaving is complete and it is time to pull the yards of fabric off of the loom. For this piece I wove 6.5 yards of fabric and altered once off of the to add texture and the flair around the edges. The finished scarf is 78" in length. Nothing is better then pulling a wonderful soft and warm scarf off of the loom on a cold October evening.

Flair Scarf
Monday
Pedaled my bike 10 miles to work in the dark, with my blinking lights as I do every morning, I then went through my day of teaching and made the 10 mile bike ride back home. I was so excited to sit down behind my loom, drink my hot teal, pop in a DVD and do some weaving. I was only allowing myself to weave until 6:00 as the dog still needed to be cared for, and there was a long list of reading waiting to be completed for my grad class. At 7:00 I sat down to read, this did not go nearly as well as the weaving, as I was attempting to read about creativity I could not get my brain to stop thinking about new weaving creations. I read for an hour, I have no clue what I read, instead I have several new color combinations determined, a project to use my scrap yarn, and several new photography projects to teach my students, so while it seems to have been a productive hour, I need to begin reading all over again, hopefully with less thoughts about my own creations and more focus on what creativity is and the idea behind it.
Exciting News
While walking down the streets peering into shop windows for First Friday, my husband spotted a shop with free cookies, so we turned around and ventured into the store. The store owner quickly noticted and commented on the scarf I was wearing. We began talking and she bought 6 Flair scarves to sell in her two store locations. Please stop by her shops,Festoon, and check out the wonderful designs. My scarves will begin to appear in her stores starting November 1st.
Studio Space
If you were to speak with anyone who knows me, they would quickly tell you that I am not the neatest person in the world. My studio tends to look like I took a bag of yarn and just threw it into the air. Well I finally decided that it was time to break down and clean up the place. I spent a whole evening after work, putting things away, dusting, and rearranging. It was amazing to be in a working space that I could freely move around in, without stepping on something. Now the question is how long will I be able to keep it looking this way.
Revived
My dead computer came back to life last night. I was going into my studio to do so much needed cleaning, and decided to give it one more try. I was so excited when I pressed the power button and the old faithful Mac turned on!
Pictures of my studio coming tomorrow!
