Yesterday I was experimenting with weaving with toll. I decided to only weave a small piece in case I didn't like the results. Once it was off of the loom I was searching for a small enough neck to try it on so that I could see how it would look. And there sat my Shibu Inu, Peca, ready to assist. She very willingly allowed me to tie the scarf around her neck and proceeded to pose. She loves having her picture taken. We first took photos outside and then moved into our dining room. I guess this is what happens when you are home alone all day with a dog.
I then started to look at my scarfs and when they were rolled up they looked like flowers to me. So I took the scarves out into the garden and placed them among the plants. I must say if the neighbors were watching I'm sure they were entertained, as I went from having a dog fashion show to placing scarves throughtout the garden. My husband arrived home from work as the dog was perched on the antique yellow couch in our dining roomed, with her ruffled scarf posing for the camera, and asked " what in the world are you doing?" I just laughed and continued taking photos of the dog.
Well as you can see I have been working to "reinvent" the traditional scarf. I love creating, but am not satisfied to do the same old thing for very long. The piece that I am putting onto my loom right now is going to be woven with a combination of yarn, as I usually use, and tool. I am hoping that it turns out how it looks in my imagination. I will post pictures as soon as it is complete. I am hoping to have it finished before my husband and I head off to Frane to watch Le Tour. My husband and I spend a lot of time riding our bikes together, and we both bike to work. My ride is 10 miles each way which is a great workout and costs nothing. I recommend it to everyone. My favorite part of the ride, is riding while the sun is rising, watching the colors change in the sky as well as how the light affects the fields around me is a wonderful experience that is missed while driving. The original flair scarf was inspired by fields of wheat and corn up against one another, I loved the contrast in the color, texture, and height. As well as the free movement of the plants in the wind. After seeing this I came home sat down and my loom and the scarves that you see were born.
I draw a lot of my inspiration from nature and the things I see around me. I am hoping to take a lot of photos while traveling and we'll see what I come up with.
I just finished this one this morning. I began getting the yarn ready for it last night, and it was the first thing I did when I got up this morning. Once I began weaving I just couldn't stop. I get so excited to see if the piece turns out the way I pictured it. I'm not much for planning with my art, and never have been, which can be good and bad, however I find the process so thrilling and it makes me produce a lot, because once I begin I must finish so that I can start the next piece. It's always about getting one piece created so that I can make the next thing that is in my mind. It is a shame that my hands are unalbe to keep up with my mind. I watched the movie PS. I Love You two times, while weaving this piece this morning.
